Lily Reid

I was born and raised in the town of Petaluma, and I have been fascinated with knitting and textiles from a very young age; my grandmother taught me to knit when I was 6 and I haven’t ever stopped. Throughout my childhood, I always wished that I could somehow manage to fit at least one sheep in my tiny backyard (but that has yet to work out...). I am lucky to be surrounded by amazing artists and a local community that have helped and inspired me to pursue what I love.

For the last 10 years, I have built up my own small knitwear design studio called Apprentice Studio and worked alongside my mother as we started Good Gray, a retail store here in town.

I am currently delving into the world of knitting pattern writing and have just completed a mentorship all about size grading. I really enjoy the knitting technicalities and can’t wait to continue my education in this field.

I am thrilled to be working in collaboration with my dear friend Judith, and I am so happy to be able to share our new ideas with this amazing community of friends.

Judith Marciante

I’ve been knitting since I was quite young, and I come from a long line of craftswomen who loved to knit, crochet and embroider, and passed that love on to me. My ancestors’ roots go back to the British Isles and Scandanavia, and I like to believe that I channel that heritage through my own love of knitting. Many years ago, I was also very active in weaving, owning many looms and showing my work in art and craft shows. As I started to move around the country, the looms had to be passed on, and knitting took over as it is so portable.

I have spent my professional career in the tech world, running a dot.com business, designing and coding websites, all the while knitting to keep myself grounded. I worked and taught classes at our local yarn shop in Petaluma before it closed several years ago. That was where Lily and I met, got to know each other, and formed a fast friendship. Since then, I’ve decided to try to do what I can to continue the sense of community and camaraderie that I loved at the yarn shop by being a partner in “Judith & Lily.”

When we started Judith & Lily, I taught knitting, crocheting and embroidery workshops. Since our brick and mortar closed during Covid, that part of our business has stopped. However, I still teach private lessons and would be happy to hear from you if you have a special need. You can contact me at hello@judithandlily.com.
