DESIGN BOARD - Children’s

A place where we like to show our inspiration for current yarns and patterns. Since we don’t see our customers in a shop everyday to talk about beautiful project ideas, we have made a virtual way for us to show you what we are inspired by currently! Have a look and see if something inspires you too. We update this page on a monthly basis!

Bias Garter Stitch Blanket adaption

Lily just made this one with some simple improvisation of the Corner to Corner Washcloth from Purl Soho and some yarn from her stash. The end product of this pattern is a bias knit garter stitch square so you can easily change your yarn and the size of the square to whatever you’d like! Just continue increasing until half of your yarn is gone or the square is half the size you want, and then decrease back down. A really fun and simple project. Plus it would look amazing in stripes or with pom poms on the corners… She’s already planning a striped version using Önling No. 1…

Though you can use any yarn and needle size that works for you we especially love the outcome of these yarns: Önling No 1, Blue Sky Baby Alpaca, Coates & Co Prairie Sock (especially because the minis are perfect for stripes or color blocks!), or Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok.

Whatever your heart desires!

Lily used approximately 550 yards of Aran weight yarn on a size US 10.5 needle and the finished size is 30” square after blocking.

Nine Patch Blanket by Kay Gardiner

*Pattern available in the Log Cabin Field Guide

This is a very clever design as the 4 mitered squares in the corners of the blocks make it so you never have any squares touching where the garter stitch goes the same direction. Very easy and fun especially if you add a pop of color…
